Launching a new product or service can be difficult. If your friends and family are not the entrepreneurial type it can be hard to get good feedback from them. Sure they are cheering you on but it might feel like they don’t fully understand your journey. You might find yourself feeling isolated. I sure did when I started out my entrepreneurial journey.
Then somewhere in the early 2010s I stumbled into a renaissance where I discovered a group of like minded people working out of a retired caboose train car building and launching new products and services at breakneck speeds. We were a ragtag bunch of misfits working hard during the day (and playing just about as hard in the evening). That eventually evolved into the 100State co-working space. It was there that I realized I should stop building products and start building a community.
Times were good, and I am still a member of 100State though I rarely get there and a lot of the original hustlers and hackers that frequented 100State have moved on.
Then last year I discovered a little bit of that magic when I discovered Jonathan Stark’s “Ditcherville” community for solo consultants and I felt a little bit of that magic again. I felt(and still feel) rejuvenated. There is a place for me to post my ideas and get real feedback from the community. It’s nice, but part of me wants more.
Recently a good friend of mine, Dominic, and I have been sounding boards for each other on many projects throughout the year. In fact Dominic was the marketing half of DrawnBy.ai. We have been chatting pretty consistently lately, so much so that it has almost evolved into a virtual daily standup meeting. I think it has been good for both of us, to know you are not creating something in a vacuum. To have someone to sanity check your crazy ideas. To vent to when life throws you a curveball that changes your game plan.
So keeping in mind my first 2024 goal, Add $5,000,000 worth of value to my clients, I ponder how I can add the most value for people. Would people find value in having an online community they could share their wins and losses with and learn from others journeys? Would having a weekly happy hour you can share your updates for this week and goals for next week be useful?
Most of my customers started out as a few hackers and hustlers in a garage(or possibly a decommissioned caboose) and started to grow from there. I am just trying to provide them with value earlier in their lifecycle. So, as I tend to do randomly, I bought a domain, Indihustlers.com (indihackers.com was taken). I am still playing around with exactly what the community and content looks like but I am sure it will be a lot of fun.
So if you or someone you know is looking for a little virtual support, a mastermind group to bounce ideas off of and an accountability group stay tuned(or bug me about it on Discord if I have not gotten it up yet) it should be a fun ride.
~Cheers
