Election DDoS Mania

Election DDoS Mania

The CTO of CloudFlare posted recently that they fended off some pretty impressive DDoS attacks last week. They boast a mind blowing 6 billion HTTP DDoS requests that were targeting election related and government websites. To put that in perspective, that is only a fraction of the traffic going to these sites, the rest of the traffic assumed to be legitimate traffic.

Allowing legitimate traffic is equally if not more important than it is to block malicious traffic. Imagine if a sustained DDoS attack had kept communications between election officials from happening for a sustained period of time. Or possibly as bad if (In any election, not just this one) keeping the public from knowing the results? It could create some serious issues.

So bravo CloudFlare. And to the rest of you DDoS attacks are on the rise, please take measures to protect your projects accordingly.
