AWS Cost Explorer Resource Level Granularity - Part 1

Do you wish you could get more granular insights into your AWS Costs?
How about down to the individual resource?
Recently I had to do some digging into some crazy CloudWatch Logs pricing and I wanted to get the exact log group that was getting spammed.
I was able to find out a different way without too much difficulty(I would tell you but it's going to make a great CloudWarGames Scenario) but I still wanted the option of finding the problematic resource via Cost Explorer.
As it turns out according to the AWS Documentation on “Resource-level data at daily granularity” you can update settings in the AWS Billing and Cost Management > Cost Management Preferences > Cost Explorer > Historical and granular data settings that will give you Granular Data up to 14 days of past data.
You do have to select the services you want to monitor and it will take up to 48 hours to enable.
Be careful because right next to it there are some features that cost extra but the really good news is they have a cost estimation form on that page so you at least get a heads up in theory.
I’ll try and circle back on this in 48 hours to show you what it looks like.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Question For You:
Are you using Granular Resource Level data to control your costs?
If so, tell me how you have used it to hunt down issues.
